By Joan C. McKinney, director of university communications
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- If you’re still shopping for Christmas and need some ideas for alumni and friends, Campbellsville University has three Centennial Celebration items that are available.
Two books have been published to commemorate the centennial as well as a Centennial Painting.
“The History of Campbellsville University – 1906-2006” is by Dr. J. Chester Badgett, and is a detailed narrative history. “Dr. Badgett’s attention to detail and historical research has helped us immensely in the effort to preserve the rich history of the institution,” said John Chowning, executive vice president for church and external relations and chair of the Centennial Committee.
Gordon Smith, an adjunct instructor at CU who is from Campbellsville, has served as editor of the book with input and assistance from a number of centennial history committee members and others on campus and in the local community. The history book sells for $19.95.
A pictorial history of the institution titled “A Portrait of Campbellsville University – 1906-2006” has also been published. The book includes a brief narrative, a timeline and numerous photographs that portray the four historical phases of the institution (e.g., Russell Creek Academy, Campbellsville Junior College, Campbellsville College and Campbellsville University). The book costs $29.95.
The books can be purchased together for $42.50. They are available at Campbellsville University’s Barnes & Noble University Bookstore and Chandler’s and Cozy Comforts in downtown Campbellsville.
A Centennial Painting has been painted by Billie Sue Kibbons, a 1975 alumna of CU who is a Campbellsville artist.
“From Dreams to Reality,” a CU Centennial Painting, is now available for purchase. The print is 20” x 24” and is $25 with $5 for shipping and handling. Those interested should contact Amanda Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org or 789-5304.
